+1, this feature is a critical requirement for our team as well.

We are standardizing our infrastructure provisioning on AWS CDK and utilize Harness CI with containerized step groups for our workflows. A key part of our process is to run cdk diff to generate a plan of potential infrastructure changes. We require a mandatory, auditable approval gate at this stage for a team lead or peer to review this plan before any cdk deploy command is executed.

The lack of a native approval step in the CI module creates a significant inconvenience and a governance gap, as it means a deployment could proceed without a formal review. Adding this feature would be a great help, allowing us to build the secure, end-to-end IaC pipelines we need.

I’d like to upvote this please. Having a custom approval step in a CI stage would alllow us to reject builds which don’t meet requirements then the pipelines can exit as a rejection based on that criteria. This is a better experience than a pipeline failure or having to export all the data into a policy and write and manage a policy to handle the approval.

Our recommendation is to use Approval Stage before or after the CI stage.
